| Description: | We are trying to find from where a great-grandfather, his wife and daughter immigrated to Providence. One document says Poland; another Russia; another Germany. The surname is common but mispelled in several ways even on these documents.
We realize eastern Europe's borders were confused throughout the 19th century but there must be a way of ascertaining a more precise place of origin and who controlled where in the mid 1870's.
The only sources we haven't really checked are the passenger lists for the year 1875, partly because we've no idea of what port this trio used in Europe.
We need someone to research those lists and any other source that we haven't thought of-unlikely as we've sought records all over eastern Europe for all our other relatives in this generation with some luck. With this ancestor, we have been stymied. |
