Description:My great-grandmother's (Hester May Cowger) mother was Ida Lee Hollingsworth. She died when Hester was only 3 years old and I have not been able to find any information on her parents. Here's what I have: Ida Lee Hollingsworth b. 20 Dec 1879 in Grayson Co, Texas m. John Clay Cowger, 14 Dec 1896 Hart, Pontotoc, Oklahoma d. 09 Jan 1903, Johnsonville, McClain, Oklahoma Children: Baby Girl Cowger, stillborn 1897 Hester May Cowger b. 25 Jan 1900 Johnsonville, McClain, Oklahoma d. 26 Jul 1994, Sullivan, Franklin, Missouri Twins Ada and Ida, died 1903 a few days after Ida Lee. Found Ida Hollingsworth with mother Anna and Father F. Hollingsworth in the 1880 Census. I believe this is my Ida Lee because according to the census, she was born in Dec 1879, which matches my Ida's birthdate, confirmed on her grave marker. Denton County, Texas is also right next to Grayson County, Texas where she was born. This is the only Ida Hollingsworth found in the 1880 census in this area. I've attached the census image. Family stories state that Ida was Native American, at least 50%, perhaps 100%, so that's why I choose Native American as well as Genealogy.

One goal on researching this family is to prove/disprove the family stories about Ida being Native American. The story is that my great-grandmother, Hester, was half Native American. I know that if she was, that it does not come from her father's line as extensive research has been done on her father's line. My great grandmother always denied this, but when she was born in the 1900s, they may have denied their Native American ancestry because of how poorly the Native Americans were treated. I understand that it may be hard to prove/disprove just for this reason. The stories I've heard were that Hester was either half Blackfoot, Crow or perhaps Cherokee. I have found that Ida's father's name was Frank by looking at census records, but I would also like to know about her mother Anna. I believe that if there is Native American ancestry, that it came from Anna.

I apologize if there has been any confusion regarding this request. The title is misleading. I am looking for information on Francis Marian Hollingsworth wife, Anna, not Anna Oliver, who was Harrison Hollingsworth's wife. I now have information that Frank Hollingsworth's wife Anna's name was Anna, or Annie Mayfield.

Through my own research, I have found more information regarding the Hollingsworth family, and I don't believe there was Native American ancestry there. So from what I have now, I can say that if Ida did have Native American ancestry, it was not 100% as the family legend says. It may be possible that she was half Native American, if Anna(Annie) Mayfield was Native American. At this point, I don't believe there is going to be a way to verify Native American ancestry short of DNA, but I would still like to know more about Anna(Annie) Mayfield. If you believe you can help me find her family and ancestors, please let me know. Thank you.
